A major pro-democracy group in Egypt will meet on Tuesday with a visiting European parliamentary delegation, reversing an earlier decision to shun such talks.
"The National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy decided to meet with the European delegation to present its vision on the situation in Egypt," Magdi Salem, a leading alliance member, told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday.
A delegation from the European parliament arrived in Cairo on Monday for a three-day visit.
"Although we had earlier decided not to hold such meetings, we saw that it would be important to meet with this delegation," Salem said.
On Saturday, the alliance turned down an invitation from the delegation for talks on the possibility of the alliance's participation in the forthcoming constitutional referendum.
The move is a cornerstone of the army's roadmap for political transition following its July 3 ouster of elected president Mohamed Morsi.
The unconstitutional change of government is described by Morsi's supporters as a military coup, while opponents hail it as a military-backed "popular uprising."
