An Egyptian military plane crashed Sunday a few minutes after it took off from Luxor airport, southern Egypt, killing one civilian and wounding three others on the ground, a medical source said.
Eyewitnesses said the plane had turned ablaze soon after it crashed in an agricultural area north of the Upper Egyptian province. They said the pilot ejected on time.
Army spokesperson Ahmed Ali said in a statement that a military training plane crashed at 10:20 am due to a "sudden malfunction".
Luxor security chief, Mustafa Bakr, said the crashed plane was a MiG-21, and that parts of the plane fell on some houses in Madamoud village in northern Luxor.
The state television confirmed that the casualties were all civilians.
Military police rushed to the crash site and cordoned it off, with only fire engines and ambulances were allowed in.
