SANAA
The Al-Qaeda-linked Ansar al-Sharia militant group claimed on Tuesday that it killed 12 members of Shiite Houthi movement and injured 21 others in separate attacks in capital Sanaa a day earlier.
The group has said on Twitter that it killed eight Houthis and injured 14 others after detonating 13 kg of explosives at a rally by Houthi supporters outside the house of Abdel-Ilah al-Sharafi, who leads the Houthi-affiliated Umma party.
The group further said it has killed four Houthis and injured seven others in a twin car blast it staged near the residence of a Houthi leader in Sanaa.
The explosion, the group claimed, also destroyed three vehicles belonging to the Houthis and damaged the leader's house.
Neither the Yemeni government nor the Houthi group announced a death toll for Monday's blasts.
On a related note, armed tribesmen shot dead a Houthi militant in the central Redaa city, according to eyewitnesses.
Yemen has recently appeared on the verge of civil war, as the Houthis seek to expand their control beyond capital Sanaa, which they took over in September.
The growing Houthi influence has pitted the Shiite movement against both Al-Qaeda, which is said to remain active in politically fractious Yemen, and allied tribes.
Recent fighting between the warring camps in the country's central and western regions has left dozens dead.
