JERUSALEM

Debris from intercepted missiles fell on a power generation station in the northern Israeli city of Haifa on Thursday, causing electricity outages in several areas, Israel’s public broadcaster reported.

The falling debris caused damage to infrastructure at the facility, disrupting power supply in multiple neighborhoods, with no immediate reports of casualties, the broadcaster said.

Israel’s Channel 12 said Iran launched three waves of missiles toward the central, northern, and southern parts of Israel as part of the ongoing military escalation.

The channel reported that sirens sounded across wide areas, while air defense systems were working to intercept the incoming missiles, amid reports of debris falling in several locations that could not be independently verified.

Later, the channel reported that Iran’s latest attack targeted oil refineries in Haifa.

An Anadolu correspondent said loud explosions were heard in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and surrounding areas as a result of the Iranian missile launches.

Air raid sirens also sounded in the southern city of Ashdod and its port following the attack.

Iran struck the Haifa power station in retaliation for the attack on the South Pars gas field, said the Iranian TV.

Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing so far around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
