KRG premier, US envoy discuss resuming oil exports via Türkiye
Masrour Barzani urges US support for negotiations, particularly as observers in talks on trade restrictions
ERBIL, Iraq
Masrour Barzani, the prime minister of Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), and US Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack held discussions Tuesday about resuming Iraq’s oil exports through Türkiye and ongoing talks between Erbil and Baghdad.
In a statement on the US social media company X’s platform, Barzani said the region “will allow the federal government to resume exports via our pipeline.”
He also urged US support for negotiations, particularly as observers in talks on trade restrictions.
Barrack welcomed efforts by both sides.
“Many thanks to Erbil and Baghdad for their work to reach agreement…to resume energy exports and improve prosperity for the region,” he said.
“The United States remains fully committed to supporting these important efforts.”
The remarks come as Baghdad and the KRG reached an agreement to resume oil exports through Türkiye’s Ceyhan port, with flows expected to restart imminently.
