HAMILTON, Canada

Canada on Tuesday warned its citizens traveling or residing in the Gulf states to avoid taking, sharing or possessing photos or videos of military activity or damage amid the US-Israeli war with Iran.

In a travel advisory posted on the US social media company X’s platform, it urged its citizens to "avoid taking, sharing or possessing photos or videos of military activity or damage in: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates."

"Doing so could lead to fines, imprisonment or deportation," it added.

The warning comes as regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing around 1,300 people so far, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries, which it says are targeting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.

According to an Anadolu tally, Iran has fired at least 3,955 missiles and drones in retaliation for US-Israeli attacks.

The United Arab Emirates has been the most targeted country, followed by Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, while Oman recorded the lowest number of attacks.
