The Israeli military announced on Friday that it had intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, hours after US airstrikes targeted Yemen’s Ras Isa oil port, killing 38 people and injuring dozens more.

Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a statement that the Israeli Air Force “successfully intercepted the missile.”

The Israeli daily Haaretz reported that sirens sounded in several cities in central Israel, but there were no casualties. However, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation KAN reported that there were injuries due to the panic during the rush to shelters.

The missile incident comes after US airstrikes on Yemen's Ras Isa port on Thursday evening, which resulted in at least 38 deaths and over 100 injuries, according to Houthi-affiliated media sources.

The US government confirmed Thursday that it had destroyed a fuel platform at the port.

Since March 15, Anadolu has reported hundreds of US airstrikes in Yemen, resulting in at least 163 civilian deaths and 358 injuries, many of whom were women and children, according to Houthi reports.

US President Donald Trump said last month that he had ordered "decisive and powerful military action" against the Houthi group and later threatened to "completely annihilate them."

The Houthis have targeted ships passing through the Red and Arabian seas, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden since November 2023 in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where over 51,000 people have been killed in a brutal Israeli assault for more than 18 months.

The group halted attacks when a ceasefire in Gaza was declared in January between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas but resumed them after Israel renewed airstrikes on the enclave last month.
