ANBAR, Iraq

At least nine people, including one soldier, were killed on Friday in a suicide bombing in Iraq’s western Anbar province, according to a local military source.

“Four Daesh suicide bombers managed to infiltrate into the Al-Shohadaa area of the Al-Baghdadi district,” Army Colonel Walid al-Deleimi told Anadolu Agency.

“Security forces surrounded three of the bombers who were holed up in a building before killing them,” he said.

“The fourth bomber, however, managed to detonate his suicide vest near a group of soldiers and civilians,” al-Deleimi added.

According to the army officer, at least nine people -- including one soldier -- were killed by the blast, while about a dozen more were injured.

Located just west of the provincial capital Ramadi, Anbar’s Al-Baghdadi district -- which continues to see sporadic attacks by the embattled Daesh terrorist group -- is currently under the control of Iraqi security forces and local tribal volunteers.
