Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov on Wednesday reaffirmed his country’s support for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s (OSCE) activities aimed at implementing confidence-building measures in Central Asia’s border regions.

His comments came during a meeting with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu, according to a Kyrgyz presidency statement, which also highlighted his support for the organization’s work to promote lasting peace.

“The development of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the OSCE was discussed, as well as the possibility of expanding the Organization's project presence in the country to implement joint initiatives,” the statement said about the talks.

It added that Japarov pointed to ongoing reciprocal visits between Kyrgyz and OSCE delegations, along with the “effective work” of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek.

The statement also noted that the OSCE is currently carrying out 22 projects in Kyrgyzstan, including the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, with Japarov expressing appreciation for the organization’s support across multiple sectors.

During the meeting, Japarov also raised concerns about the global situation and the continuing conflict in the Middle East.

“In conclusion, the parties emphasized the importance of resolving all contentious issues peacefully,” the statement said.

Earlier, Sinirlioglu, who arrived in Bishkek on Tuesday for a two-day visit, also met with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev.
