Russia reports fire at Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga after Ukrainian drone attack

ISTANBUL

Russian authorities early Wednesday reported a fire at the Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga following an overnight Ukrainian drone strike.

Aleksandr Drozdenko, the governor of the country’s northwestern Leningrad region, said on Telegram that a total of 56 drones were shot down in the region after an air alert sounded overnight.

The fire is being extinguished, Drozdenko said, adding that the roof of a residential building was damaged in the town of Vyborg.

Based on preliminary reports, no one was injured, Drozdenko said.

Later on Wednesday, the Defense Ministry said in a statement that Russian air defenses had shot down 389 Ukrainian drones over 13 regions, including Leningrad and Moscow, as well as over Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014.

Ukrainian authorities have not immediately commented on the attack or on Russia’s claims.
