US House Democrats urge Israel to resume aid flow to Gaza

WASHINGTON

Dozens of US House Democrats called on Israel to resume aid flow to the Gaza Strip.

"As supporters of a strong US-Israel relationship, we write to express our opposition to the current Israeli government policy to block all humanitarian aid from entering the Gaza Strip," the lawmakers said Wednesday in a letter addressed to Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter.

They said they are "deeply alarmed and dismayed" by Israel's humanitarian blockade.

Since March 2, Israel has kept Gaza’s crossings closed to food, medical and humanitarian aid, deepening an already worsening humanitarian crisis in the enclave.

"We implore your government to resume the flow of aid into Gaza. We also reiterate our support for a renewed ceasefire and hostage release deal to finally end this war — the only option to alleviate the suffering of both Israelis and Palestinians and put the region on a path towards security and stability," the lawmakers said.

The US has long been criticized for providing support to Israel in its war in Gaza, where more than 52,600 people, mostly women and children, have been killed since Oct. 7, 2023.

Several American lawmakers including Sen. Bernie Sanders frequently demand that the administration stop supplying weapons to Israel and being complicit in Israel's war in Gaza.
