A Palestinian man died Friday from wounds sustained during an Israeli military raid on the Qalandia refugee camp north of occupied East Jerusalem, medical sources reported.

Medical sources at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah told Anadolu that Mustafa Hamad died after being shot during the raid.

He arrived at the hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, the sources said.

An Anadolu correspondent reported that Hamad's funeral procession began at the hospital, attended by Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governor Leila Ghannam.

Earlier Friday, the Palestinian Red Crescent said its crews treated two young men wounded by live fire during the raid.

Local sources said clashes broke out at the camp's entrance as Israeli forces used live and rubber-coated bullets and tear gas. Palestinian youths threw stones at the troops, the sources said.

Violence has escalated across the West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza on Oct. 8, 2023, including killings, demolitions, displacement, and settlement expansion.

The escalation has killed 1,135 Palestinians, wounded about 11,700 others, and led to the arrest of roughly 22,000 people, amid international warnings that Israel may move to annex the territory.

The conflict dates to 1948, when Israel was established on land where armed groups displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. Israel later took control of the remaining Palestinian territories and has rejected withdrawal and the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
