New York City officials have placed law enforcement on “heightened alert” following Sunday's US military strikes on Iran, according to local media.

“There are no notable threats directly to the city, but you always want to be conscious of lone wolves,” NBC News quoted Mayor Eric Adams as saying.

He said the New York Police Department is working closely with federal agencies and will focus on increased surveillance of Jewish and Persian community sites, as well as heavily trafficked public areas like Times Square.

“We want to make sure no lone wolf attacks happen at those locations,” he added.

The mayor also noted that authorities are monitoring for potential cyberattacks against US-based networks in light of warnings regarding possible Iranian retaliation.

Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry emphasized that “public safety is his top priority,” and encouraged New Yorkers to maintain normal routines.

“We want New Yorkers to go about their business,” he stressed.

Officials urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior. “We are stepping up,” Adams said. “We are on heightened alert.”

US forces carried out strikes early Sunday on Iran’s Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites amid growing fears of a broader conflict.
