WASHINGTON
The US Senate passed a $ 1.1 trillion government-spending bill Thursday aimed at easing last year's budget cuts.
The Senate -- the upper chamber of the U.S. Congress -- passed the bill by a vote of 72 to 26. President Barack Obama is expected to sign the bill.
The bill will fund government agencies and programs until September 30, reducing the risk of another government shutdown. It pays for Obama’s health care program -- opposition to which prompted the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to partially shut down the government last October.
