U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday touched down in Kenya – his father’s homeland – to attend the 6th Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi.
His plane landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport a few minutes after 8 pm local time.
Obama was welcomed by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and his son Muhoho Kenyatta. This is the first time that the summit is being held in sub-Saharan Africa.
Kenyans lined up the streets of Nairobi to welcome Obama during his first visit to the country as a U.S. president.
The streets of Nairobi had been cleaned up, potholes filled and roads lined up with U.S. and Kenyan flags.
Obama will officially open the summit on Saturday before heading to the site of the 1998 U.S. embassy bombing where he will lay a wreath.
