The Italian media has revised the death toll in the Milan court shooting incident from four to three.
The incident occurred Thursday on the third floor of the Palace of Justice where a judge was shot dead inside his office, Giovanni Canzio, president of Milan’s Court of Appeal, said. Two lawyers were also killed in the incident.
Earlier, the Italian media had said that the suspect killed four people, but later they corrected the death toll to three people dead and one other person injured.
The courthouse was evacuated after the incident, according to the Italian ANSA news agency.
According to ANSA, the suspect, Claudio Giardiello, 57, is reportedly an Italian national, who was facing bankruptcy charges.
"He was arrested in the town of Virmercata (about 25 kilometers from Milan) and is now being held in a police station,” Italian Interior Minister Angelino Alfano tweeted.
The Italian news agency named the three deceased as Judge Fernando Ciampi and lawyers, Lorenzo Alberto Claris Appioni and Giorgio Erba. The wounded person was named as Davida Limongelli, who was said to be a colleague of the suspect.
According to the suspect's first statement that he reportedly gave to the gendarmerie, he said: "I wanted to take my revenge from those who ruined my life."
Justice Minister Andrei Orlando said: "It is unbelievable that an armed person entered the Palace of Justice."
An eyewitness said a motion detector at the entrance of the building was broken Thursday, which may be how the suspect was able to sneak a gun into courthouse.
