The three main armed opposition groups in Syria announced Tuesday the establishment of a “joint operations base” in Aleppo, the country's largest city.
The Islamic Front, Mujahideen Army and al-Nusra Front agreed to fight together “against [President Bashar] Assad’s army and sectarian militias,” said the cooperation agreement published on the Islamic Front’s Twitter account.
The agreement, signed by the groups' commanders, called on other groups to join the operation.
Syria’s civil war, which will enter its third year in March, has resulted in the deaths of over 130,000 people and displaced millions, according to the United Kingdom-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
