DONETSK, Ukraine
At least six people were killed during intense clashes between the Ukrainian army and pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine on Sunday.
A further eight were injured in fighting to the west of Donetsk, according to a statement from the Ukrainian Health Ministry. There was no indication if the casualties were civilians, rebels or Ukrainian troops.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry announced on Saturday that 30 separatist fighters were killed in air strikes.
The three-month conflict in eastern Ukraine began after the Kiev government launched an “anti-terrorist” operation against separatists who declared independence in Luhansk and Donetsk provinces.
