JOHANNESBURG
South Africa plans to ask social-networking website Twitter to shut down fake accounts created in the name of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa.
"We are in the process of writing formally to Twitter, requesting them to shut down the fake accounts," Ramaphosa spokesperson Matshepo Seedat told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday.
The presidency had earlier said it had found a number of fake Twitter accounts created in the deputy president's name.
"The presidency wishes to place it on record that the deputy president does not have a Twitter [account] or any other social media account," it said in a statement.
The presidency further asserted that all information pertaining to Ramaphosa would henceforth be posted on the presidency's official Twitter and Facebook accounts.
