ALEPPO, Syria
At least 98 people, including women and children, were killed in air and ground operations across Syria, allegedly mounted by President Bashar al-Assad's regime on Monday, opposition activists say.
The London-based Syrian Network for Human Rights watchdog said 47 people were killed in Aleppo, 16 in Damascus’s suburbs, 14 in Homs, 10 in Idlib, seven in Dera’a, three in Hama and one in Quneitra.
According to the opposition group, Assad regime forces used also barrel and vacuum bombs in their attacks in many districts of Aleppo, such as Sukkari, Tell Rifaat etc.
Syrian official news agency SANA said that Syrian army killed many armed persons in Aleppo, Latakia and Homs.
Syria has been gripped by almost constant fighting since the regime launched a violent crackdown in response to anti-government protests in March 2011, triggering a conflict, which has spiraled into civil war.
The UN has stopped updating its death toll for the country because an official count has become too difficult to verify. At least 100,000 deaths were recorded in the last official count in July 2013.
