CAIRO
Polls closed Wednesday evening on the third and final day of Egypt's presidential vote, in which former army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi is facing off against leftist candidate Hamdeen Sabahi.
The vote was the second step of an army-imposed transitional roadmap unveiled last July following the ouster of elected president Mohamed Morsi.
The roadmap, which included a constitutional referendum in January, should conclude later this year with parliamentary polls.
The winner of the presidential election will take over from interim president Adly Mansour, who was installed by the army following Morsi's ouster and subsequent imprisonment almost 11 months ago.
Five international organizations and 79 local ones have been authorized by Egypt's electoral commission to observe the balloting.
In addition to nongovernmental monitors, representatives of the Arab League, the European Union, the African Union, and the Common Market for East and South Africa observed the vote.
Around 300,000 police and army personnel have been deployed nationwide to secure the polling.
