LONDON
Parts of the communication between former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and former U.S. President George W Bush over Iraq war are planned to be made public, UK officials have announced.
The UK's Cabinet Office and the Chilcot Inquiry, which probes into the Iraq war, have agreed to disclose 'gist' of the conversations to the public, the inquiry announced Wednesday.
The inquiry headed by retired civil servant Sir John Chilcot, launched in 2009, was expected to publish its report almost two years ago.
In a letter to Cabinet Secretary Jeremy Heywood, Sir Chilcot said, "Detailed consideration of gists and quotes requested by the Inquiry from communications between the U.K. Prime Minister and the President of the United States has now begun. It is not yet clear how long that will take[.]"
The full transcripts of the conversations will remain secret. No date has been announced for the report's release.
