MAZAR-I SHARIF, Pakistan
Five civilians were killed on Saturday by the strikes of Pakistani helicopters against Taliban militants in Afghanistan’s border province of Kunar, Afghan officials said.
Kunar Governor Shuja ul-Mulk Jalala told reporters that two Pakistani military helicopters launched a bombardment on Dangam district in northwestern Afghanistan.
Jalala said 10 other persons including children were wounded in the operation that lasted hours beginning from the morning.
Meanwhile, Pakistan said one of its military posts in Bajaur Agency, which borders Kunar, came under fire in the morning by over 200 terrorists crossing from the Afghan side.
One Pakistani soldier was killed and two others injured during the attack, the foreign office said in a press statement.
"Any allegations about shelling on Afghan civilians inside Afghanistan are incorrect. The Pakistan aviation only fired on attacking terrorists," the statement said.
