A separatist leader was killed Friday in clashes between army forces and gunmen in the southern Yemeni province of Al-Dalea, sources said.
Borkan Mohamed Manai was killed in the clashes, according to the sources.
It remains unclear whether he was engaged in the fighting or was caught in the violence.
Yemeni authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
In recent days, the southern province of Al-Dalea has seen sporadic clashes since an army shell mistakenly hit a mourning tent last week, killing 16 people, mostly civilians.
The Yemeni government has launched an investigation into the incident.
