An unknown buyer spent a record 83.4 million dollars on the "Pink Star" diamond in an auction in Switzerland Wednesday night, making it the most expensive diamond ever sold in an auction.
Having been put on a ring, 60 carat gem measuring 2.69 cm by 2.06 cm, the diamond was sold in five minutes at Sotheby's auction house. During the auction, the Pink Panther soundtrack was played.
Extracted from African mines, the pink diamond, considered one of the worlds most unique gems was trimmed over two year from a rough gemstone weighing 132.5 carats by expert cutters at Streinmenz Diamonds Company.
