Founder of the Free Syrian Army, or FSA, Colonel Riad al-Asaad was wounded in an attack in Deir az-Zor province of Syria but he was recovered from fatal condition, said FSA officials.
Sources close to colonel said Asaad was wounded in a rocket attack targeting his vehicle and sent to Turkey for treatment.
Asaad allegedly lost his right leg and his whereabouts has been kept secret for security reasons.
Asaad gave an interview to AA on March 16, assessing the incidents in Syria. Assad regime lost its legitimacy by killing over 70,000 people in the past two years and Syrian people were left alone he said, adding the opposition used its right of self-defense due to fierce violence imposed on peaceful demonstrations.
He recalled that throughout the first six months of incidents, people never used violence, however, more than 5,000 civilians had been killed. Saying they need weapons to use against the planes bombing their children, Asaad added if FSA reaches the weapons, the problem would completely be solved.
Asaad is a former colonel in Syrian Air Force who defected in July 2011. Al-Asaad had announced his defection on July 4, 2011, while he established the Free Syrian Army on July 29, 2011.
