The blind hero of Egypt's revolution, Ahmed Harara, has said that they made the revolution in Egypt for development of democracy and human rights.
Attending World Political Forum in Istanbul on Thursday, Ahmed Harara talked to the Anadolu Agency (AA).
During the violent clashes that broke out between protesters and Egyptian security forces in Tahrir Square, Harara was shot in the head on January 28, 2011. He got wounded in the head, neck and chest. After the attack Harara also lost his eye to a rubber bullet.
On November 19, he went back to the square and lost his other eye the same way.
Noting that Arab Spring means a lot to him, "We were ruled by military regime in the last 60 years in Egypt. I think the reforms in Arab countries are happening because of the restriction of freedom. We made the revolution for democracy and human rights in Egypt," said Harara.
We are insistent on living an honourable life, stated Harara.
He said that nowadays in Egypt there was a vast freedom that he had never seen in his life before.
Expressing the consequences of Arab Spring were not sufficient yet, "It would be possible to see the result of the revolution when everything calms down in Syria, Bahrain and partially in Libya and Yemen," he said.
Upon a question about the Middle East issue, Harara said that he was not afraid of Israel as an Egyptian.
"If Israel demands a peace in the Middle East, Palestine issue should be solved. The peace would come to the Middle East with this way. Free Palestine state should be established and its capital should be Jerusalem. And also building accommodation units should be stopped," Harara said.
Ahmed Harara is a 31 years old dentist. During the clashes that broke out between demonstrators and pro-Mubarek forces in Tahrir Square in January, he lost his eye to a rubber bullet. It did not stop him protesting and he went back to the square, only to lose his other eye the same way.
Having lost an eye in both revolutionary waves, Ahmed Harara has become "a living martyr" of the revolution.
