Seven policemen have been killed and 11 injured in clashes with Maoists in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, local media reported.
The fierce encounter, which lasted for two hours, reportedly began on Saturday afternoon when 100 men belonging to the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) attacked a convoy of state’s Special Task Force in Pedmal forest of Sukma district.
Rajinder Kumar, a senior police officer, confirmed the clash and said Maoists had ambushed policemen, reported the Times of India.
The injured policemen were taken to a local hospital.
