YAOUNDE
Cameroonian army forces have killed 40 Boko Haram militants near border with Nigeria, a spokesman said Sunday.
"Boko Haram militants have tried to besiege our bases [in Dabanga], but they were repelled by our forces," colonel Didier Badjeck, the chief of the communication division at the Cameroonian Defense Ministry, told Anadolu Agency.
The spokesman said that army forces had also destroyed a vehicle belonging to the militants.
"No casualties were reported among Cameroonian troops," the spokesman said.
Cameroon has deployed around 5000 soldiers on border with Nigeria to battle Boko Haram militants.
The troops deployment came after Boko Haram, which is active in northern Nigeria, had stepped up attacks on the northern parts of Cameroon.
On May 16, the militant group kidnapped ten Chinese workers following an attack on an area in northern Cameroon.
The Chinese were working for a company that had recently won a bid for the upgrade of a main road in northern Cameroon.
