JERUSALEM
Two mortar shells reportedly fell near the Israeli security fence between the Syrian border line and the Israeli-occupied section of the Golan Heights.
Speaking to Israeli Radio, Israeli military sources said the shells did not cause any casualties or damages.
The broadcaster linked the incident to the ongoing war between the Syrian army and the opposition forces.
Intense fighting had been raging in the Syria-controlled part of the Golan Heights for several days now.
Last Wednesday, militants captured a strategic border crossing in the Golan, kicking the Syrian army out of the area.
The Syrian Golan Heights were occupied by Israel during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
In 1981, the self-proclaimed Jewish state formally annexed the territory, which is inhabited by a small Syrian Druze community of roughly 20,000.
The international community has never recognized the move.
