ISTANBUL
Türkiye said on Saturday that it will “resolutely” continue to fulfill its responsibilities at both the regional and global levels, guided by a humanitarian approach, in its efforts to combat the threat of mines.
The Foreign Ministry made the remarks in a statement marking Saturday, April 4, the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, as designated by the UN General Assembly.
The ministry added that mines and unexploded ordnance threaten civilian lives for many years even after conflicts end.
“Türkiye continues to effectively support international cooperation mechanisms within the framework of the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction, to which it is a party, through the Turkish National Mine Action Center,” it also said.
