Turkey's opposition parties used their parliamentary group meetings on Tuesday to speak about last week’s terror attacks in France.
Main opposition Republican People's Party head Kemal Kilicdaroglu said that the fight against terrorism should be looked at from an international perspective, as it is never certain who, how and where would embrace terror. He added that the international arena should establish a coalition in joining forces and information.
Kilicdaroglu also appealed to Muslims saying: “Please embrace secularism.”
He said that one’s faith should not intervene in politics and said that secularism was the antidote to terrorism.
“Terrorism is a crime against humanity and it should be reprehended no matter where or who it comes from,” he said.
He said terror was a crime against humanity and added: “To take a gun and kill innocent people does not mean representing Islam.”
Head of the Nationalist Movement Party, Devlet Bahceli, said the terrorist attacks in France had brought the issue back on the world’s agenda and that this incident showed the “cursed face” of terrorism needs to be more recognizable.
Bahceli said terrorism is a cruel, inhuman act adding: “We need to agree that the attack on a satirical magazine and a market just behind it that resulted in deaths of innocent people is a crime against humanity.”
Bahceli said that no reason or purpose could justify or legitimize the brutal killing of innocent civilians.
He added that demanding from Europeans and their leaders the same reactions to acts of terror and violence in such places like Mosul in Iraq, Gaza, Damascus or Bagdad was a natural right.
“People should be able to gather and demonstrate … for Turks and Muslims like the French president and heads of other countries gathered to attend a demonstration against terror in Paris on January 11,” said Bahceli.
