CHICAGO
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met with his counterparts from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Georgia, as well as EU's foreign policy chief and Macedonia's defense minister on the sidelines of the summit on Monday.
During the meeting between Davutoglu and Bosnian Foreign Minister Zlatko Lagumdzija, issues on the agenda of the NATO summit and Turkey's support for Bosnia-Herzegovina's bid to join the alliance were assessed.
Davutoglu and Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze discussed bilateral relations, consular issues and the situation in the Caucasus, while political relations and cooperation in defense industry were assessed during Davutoglu's meeting with Macedonian Defense Minister Fatmir Besimi.
Moreover, Turkey-EU relations and the upcoming talks in Baghdad between Iran and P5+1 countries (five permanent members of the UN Security Council, the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France, plus Germany) were high on the agenda of Davutoglu's meeting with Catherine Ashton, EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
During the NATO summit held at Chicago's McCormick Congress Center, allies discussed the developments regarding Afghanistan, smart defense system, ballistic missile defense system, partnerships and NATO's deterrence as well as defense structure.
Turkey was represented by President Abdullah Gul at the gathering, accompanied by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and National Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz.
