ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Foreign Ministry offered condolences to Egypt for the people who were killed during the demonstrations in the country.
"Turkey considers the stability and security of its friend and brother Egypt of vital importance for both Turkey and the region as a whole" said in the statement issued by the ministry.
Pointing out that the steps that were taken in democratic rules were the great gains of Egyptian people, the ministry advised that all sides needed to struggle for development of unity and stability of Egypt.
"The Egyptian Revolution, which has gone down in history as the Revolution of the 25th of January, was realized to meet the legitimate aspirations of the Egyptian people, and Turkey has supported this expression of the free will of the noble Egyptian people. They have held elections to elect their President and Parliament. These steps, taken within democratic rules and principles, have been the great achievements of the Egyptian people. A national consensus to be built on these achievements will lead Egypt towards a brighter and more prosperous future. We are deeply distressed at this point in time by the events that have occurred among groups of different views, which have also been the cause of loss of lives" said in the statement.
The army had given a two-day deadline for Morsi and the opposition to solve their differences or intervene.
But Morsi has rejected the ultimatum and said respecting his legitimacy is the only way to solve Egypt’s crisis.
The deadline has expired and people are holding their breath, waiting for what the army would do and the reaction of millions of supporters and opponents of Morsi now in the streets across the country.
At least 37 people have been killed in deadly battles between both sides since June 23.
