ISTANBUL
Alparslan Bayraktar has been elected as the new chairman of the International Confederation of Energy Regulators.
His election took place on Thursday at the sixth World Forum on Energy Regulation which is sponsored by Anadolu Agency, in Istanbul.
Bayraktar is a commissioner in the Energy Market Regulatory Authority of Turkey, EMRA and he also serves as Chairman of the Energy Regulators Regional Association, ERRA.
He will hold the ICER presidency for three years.
Former chairman of ICER was Baron John Mogg a former head of Ofgem – the U.K.’s energy regulator – between 2003 and 2013; he is currently Ofgem’s European adviser.
Praising his predecessor Baron John Mogg, Bayraktar said: "[His team] has done a successful job to bring ICER to this point. It is our aim to further carry ICER after this point."
Bayraktar received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University. He earned a master’s degree in Law and Economics from Bilkent University, Faculty of Law and he also studied Strategic Marketing Management at New York University.
ICER's new chairman has been working as commissioner at EMRA for five years.
The ICER was established in October 2009. It is a voluntary framework for cooperation between energy regulators from around the globe.
The confederation aims to improve public and policy-maker awareness and understanding of energy regulation and its role in addressing a wide spectrum of socio-economic, environmental and market issues.
