ANKARA
Turkey will put an end to the activities abroad of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, Turkey’s foreign minister said on Wednesday.
"Turkey continues to take the necessary steps to prevent the PKK's activities outside the country, and to bring the members of the organization to justice," Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said while on a visit to New Zealand.
The PKK has waged a three-decade insurgency in Turkey and is listed by the U.S. and the European Union as a terrorist organization. The party's actions have claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people.
Although the PKK is listed as a terrorist organization in the EU, the organization continues to exist in many EU contries under different names and forms which appear to be legal.
"Various operations have led to the arrest of PKK members in Germany, Belgium and France," Cavusoglu said. The Ministry has followed up on the judicial process after these arrests, he added.
The EU has also played an active role in actions against the PKK in Europe, and has made them a priority, Cavusoglu said.
