WATERLOO
The head advisor for the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) Prof. Dr. Yusuf Cengel said on Thursday that Turkey became more attractive for scholars.
The ground and manufactured products were the most valuable things ages ago. For the time being, the most precious thing in the world is our brains and the knowledge, said Cengel who has been in US to attend several workshops on narrating Turkey's scientific possibilities to 330 research specialists.
Noting that the whole world was chasing smart people, Cengel stated half of the scholars in the US were foreigners and Silicon Valley had been constructed by foreign scientists.
Mentioning that Europe had generated new projects on that way, Cengel said "However, Turkey has only recently noticed it. We need to follow science if we demand to develop ourselves."
Cengel said that they had been working to bring brain drain of workers back to Turkey.
"We are ready to assist the scientists on any occasion. We have 16,000 scholars in US. They are welcome to come and stay as long as they wish. When they arrive in Turkey, they will notice how Turkey became more attractive for scientists," said Cengel. He added that his priority is to catch Turkish scholars, but foreigners were also welcome.
