Turkish Development Minister Cevdet Yilmaz said, "Turkey has targets for 2023. One of them is to raise the share of R%D expenditures up to 3 percent of the national income.''
Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology and Turkish Scientific and Technical Researches Institution (TUBITAK) have signed "Cooperation Protocol for Supervision and Evaluation of Competence of Higher Education Research Centers".
Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Nihat Ergun, Minister of Development Cevdet Yilmaz and President of TUBITAK Yucel Altunbasak participated in the signature ceremony.
Minister Yilmaz said many of research centers had been founded under higher education institutions especially in the last 9-10 years. Therefore, he said that they thought the universities were not only the educational institutions but also the base of development.
Yilmaz said, "As Turkey, we have targets for 2023. One of them is to raise the share of R%D expenditures up to 3 percent of the national income. But we think that 2 points of this 3 percent should come from public sector, and the remaining 1 point should come from private sector."
Yilmaz said that the number of researchers rose to 2 thousand in 2010 and he wanted to bring the number up to 300 thousand in 2023.
