The number of registered vehicles on Turkey’s roads was nearly 19 million in January, the country's statistics authority said Thursday.
A total of 137,334 new and old vehicles were registered in January.
In total, cars represented 52.5 percent, small trucks 16.3 percent, motorcycles 14.9 percent, tractors 8.6 percent, trucks 4.1 percent, minibuses 2.3 percent, buses 1.1 percent and special purpose vehicles 0.2 percent.
In terms of the distribution of car model brands for new registered cars in January, Renault recorded 17.8 percent, Volkswagen 11.9 percent, Hyundai 8.4 percent Fiat 7.2 percent, Dacia 7.2 percent, Opel 6.5 percent, Ford 6.3 percent, Toyota 6.2 percent, Nissan 3.7 percent, BMW 5.3 percent and other trademarks combined were 21.8 percent.
Meanwhile, Turkey’s motor vehicle production increased 4 percent in 2014 compared to the previous year due to a rise in automotive exports.
Turkey manufactured one out of every 77 motor vehicles in the world in 2014, according to figures released this week by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA).
Turkey manufactured 1,170,445 cars, an increase of 45,000 cars from 2013, to maintain its rank as the 17th largest motor vehicle producer in the world, according to OICA's 2014 provisional production statistics.
