Turkish Cypriot Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk on Tuesday called on the Greek Cypriots to act with commonsense.
Asked about the arson attack on a mosque in the Greek Cypriot administration on Friday, Kucuk said that the Greek Cypriots tried to hurt the atmosphere of peace in Cyprus by methods that belonged to 50 years ago.
"If they do want peace in Cyprus and wish to live side by side with the Turkish Cypriots, the Greek Cypriots must then give up methods used 50 years ago. They can reach nowhere by such methods," Kucuk stressed.
Prime Minister Kucuk said that he gave directives to appropriate public organizations for the repair of the mosque in the Greek Cypriot administration.
A group of Greek Cypriot young people tried to set the Koprulu Haci Ibrahim Aga Mosque on fire by pouring gasoline on Friday night. The mosque's door, wooden porch and window were burnt, while the carpets inside were blackened by the soot from the fire. An epitaph from the Ottoman era fell on the ground and broke.
