The host nation of the 2015 Copa America Chile defeated Ecuador 2-0 in the opening match of the tournament at Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos in Santiago on Thursday night.
Chile broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when their midfielder Arturo Vidal converted a penalty. Dominating the game, Eduardo Vargas doubled the score in the 84th minute.
In the other Group A game, Mexico will meet Bolivia Friday evening.
