Bilateral talks between US and Ukrainian officials in Geneva have concluded, with Kyiv saying preparations are already underway for the next round of negotiations aimed at advancing efforts to end the war with Russia.

Ukraine’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov said in a post on US social media company X that the discussions took place in two formats, including separate meetings with the American side and a trilateral meeting involving the US and Switzerland.

“Another round of negotiations has concluded in Geneva,” Umerov said, adding that after the meetings he and lawmaker Davyd Arakhamia, along with US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, held a joint call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss outcomes and next steps.

"The next round is being prepared. We are working on finalizing the security parameters, economic decisions, and agreed positions that should form the basis for further arrangements," he said, noting that the aim is to make a future trilateral meeting involving the US and Russia "as substantive as possible."

According to Umerov, particular attention was given to long-term economic support and recovery.

"Together with the Government’s economic team, including (Economy Minister) Oleksii Sobolev, and our American partners, we conducted a detailed review of the document on Ukraine’s recovery," he said, adding that teams will continue refining reconstruction and investment plans.

It was agreed that both sides will continue refining the document, particularly its provisions on future reconstruction and the investment framework, he noted.

He also thanked Switzerland for hosting the negotiations and US President Donald Trump's team for their support.

Earlier, Umerov said humanitarian issues, including possible prisoner exchanges, were on the agenda, expressing hope for "concrete results regarding the return of our citizens."

Ahead of the talks, Zelenskyy spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump, expressing hope the meeting could elevate negotiations.

"We expect this meeting to create an opportunity to move talks to the leaders’ level," he said.

The Geneva meeting followed US-mediated trilateral talks with Russia last week, which officials described as "difficult but businesslike" and "intensive and substantive," but without an agreement.
