Russian governor reports unspecified number dead, injured in Bryansk from Ukrainian missile attack
Governor says missile strike results in unspecified number of casualties, measures being taken to localize, eliminate consequences
ISTANBUL
Bryansk Gov. Alexander Bogomaz said Tuesday that an unspecified number of people were killed and injured in a Ukrainian missile strike on the border region’s administrative center.
“A missile strike has been carried out in the city of Bryansk,” Bogomaz wrote on Telegram. “Unfortunately, there are dead and injured people.”
He said measures are being taken to “localize and eliminate the consequences” of the attack, later warning about smoke in Bryansk’s Sovietsky district.
Bogomaz did not provided additional details.
The regional prosecutor's office said separately on Russian messenger app Max that those injured in the strike are receiving medical assistance.
In remarks to journalists during a news briefing, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the his military launched an attack in the region.
“While I was answering you, Commander-in-Chief (Oleksandr) Syrskyi called me and told me about the successful operation that had just been carried out. The Bryansk plant was hit,” Zelenskyy was quoted by Ukrainian media outlets, including state news agency Ukrinform, but gave no further details.
