Russian forces have taken complete control of Ukraine's easternmost region of Luhansk, the Defense Ministry claimed on Wednesday.

In addition to seizing Luhansk, Russian forces have also taken control of two settlements, including Verkhnyaya Pisarevka in the Kharkiv region and Boykovo in the Zaporizhzhia region, according to a ministry statement.

The ministry said Ukraine responded to the Russian attack with its air defense systems, shooting down 10 guided aerial bombs, a rocket from the US-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket system, and 261 drones on the previous day.

Ukraine has yet to respond to Russia's claims.

Meanwhile, US media reported that as a result of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia's Baltic ports, oil exports fell by 43%.
