ISTANBUL
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he held a joint call in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to review recent talks with the US in Florida, which were aimed at ending the war with Russia.
Zelenskyy said the briefing with Ukrainian delegation head Rustem Umerov and US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff was “important,” adding that teams would coordinate schedules for in-person follow-ups.
The Ukrainian leader said he and Macron held several hours of discussions in Paris, focusing on efforts to end the war and secure long-term guarantees for both Ukraine and Europe.
“Peace must become truly durable … much now depends on the involvement of every leader,” he added.
Zelenskyy highlighted the wider European format involved in the talks — including France, the UK, Germany, Poland, Italy, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Finland, the European Commission, the European Council and NATO’s secretary general — calling it a useful platform for aligning positions ahead of coming meetings.
He said the group discussed the substance of the Florida negotiations with the American side and shared the view that progress is needed toward a “fair end” to the war.
Umerov, writing separately on Facebook, said he spoke with Zelenskyy after returning from two days of “very productive” talks in the US. He reported “significant progress,” noting that several issues still require refinement.
“We agreed to maintain close and constant contact as this process continues,” Umerov said, adding that the delegation will soon present a full report to Zelenskyy at an upcoming meeting in Europe. “We continue to work for peace for Ukraine.”
