EU says talks on Ukraine peace process ongoing at multiple levels
Spokesperson emphasizes bloc is ensuring EU, Ukraine interests are conveyed in peace talks
BRUSSELS
The European Commission confirmed on Monday that discussions on Ukraine's peace process are ongoing at multiple levels.
EU Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho said during the midday briefing that over the weekend "several conversations took place at various levels on the topic of the peace negotiations regarding Ukraine."
Pinho also highlighted a recent call between European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in which they discussed next steps for the ongoing peace efforts and issues directly affecting the EU.
"Talks are ongoing at different levels," Pinho said, adding that they are making sure that the interests of the EU and Ukraine are conveyed to their counterparts in these peace talks.
Talks between the US and Ukraine on Sunday in Florida centered on determining where a potential peace agreement would establish the de facto border with Russia, according to two Ukrainian officials who spoke with the Axios news site.
Speaking after the meeting, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the session was "productive" and "successful" as negotiations continue on a peace plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
