ANKARA
A Turkish public prosecutor’s office has submitted to the Ministry of Justice a summary of charges against Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu, accusing him of revealing secret voice and video conversations illegally.
Kilicdaroglu was accused of “violating the confidentiality of a graft probe launched in December 2013” during the party’s group meeting in February 2014, at which he allegedly played an illegal recording of a wiretapped call involving a government official.
The summary of charges was sent to Turkey’s Ministry of Justice.
A Turkish court in Ankara had ruled earlier that there was enough evidence to charge Kilicdaroglu and requested his immunity as member of the parliament be lifted.
The Justice Ministry will submit the summary of proceedings to the parliament, where it will be decided whether Kilicdaroglu’s immunity, granted by Article 83 of the Turkish Constitution, may be lifted.
The case will be discussed in parliament after the new Turkish government is formed.
