JERUSALEM
Israeli forces have rearrested a Palestinian man who was set free only two days back after he ended his 55-day long hunger strike at an Israeli prison, a local nongovernmental organization said Monday.
According to eyewitnesses, Israeli forces arrested Khader Adnan at the al-Silisla gate before he could enter the al-Aqsa mosque where special Ramadan prayers were being held.
Israeli police said that Adnan was held because he didn’t have a permit to enter Jerusalem and added that he would be released at the end of their investigation.
Israeli authorities released Adnan, 37, late Saturday and delivered him to the village of Arraba, his hometown, near the northern West Bank city of Jenin.
Last month, Adnan ended his 55-day hunger strike after reaching an agreement with the Israeli authorities for his release on July 12.
Over 6,500 Palestinians are currently languishing in prisons throughout the self-proclaimed Jewish state, according to official Palestinian figures.
