CHITRAL, PAKISTAN - JANUARY 06: Kalash people hold a funeral ceremony for the deceased in Chitral in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan on January 06, 2020. The people of Kalash, who live in the Bamburet, Rumbur and Birir valleys of the Chitral city on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border have polytheistic beliefs, religious rituals, culture, appearances and clothing, unlike other peoples in the region. The people of Kalash, who live in three valleys known as Kalasha Valleys, located on the borders of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, is known as the people of the region called Kafiristan in the past. In Kalasha Valleys, where most of the year is cold, the dead bodies are left on the ground together with their coffins. The reason why the dead is not buried stems from the belief that it will come back to life. Since it is believed that the deceased is going to a good place, dances are performed at the funerals and money is collected at the funeral. It is considered as an insult not to come to the dinner without an excuse while shopping for the food to be distributed to the public a day later with the money collected.
