WASHINGTON
Almost a day after the cessation-of-hostilities agreement went into effect, the U.S.-led coalition air forces hit Daesh targets in northern Syria, a U.S. envoy said Saturday.
"Coalition air forces responded immediately and with devastating precision to reports of ISIL [Daesh] attacks near Tal Abyad," U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition fighting Daesh, Brett McGurk tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve also announced that the U.S.-led coalition military forces continued to attack Daesh targets in Syria and Iraq.
According to the statement, the coalition conducted eight strikes in Syria and struck targets around Tell Abyad, Hawl, Raqqah and Hasakah cities.
"Cessation of hostilities", a U.S.-Russia agreement aimed at halting the ongoing hostilities in Syria took effect at 00:00 Damascus time Saturday (GMT 22.00 Friday). This agreement excludes Daesh, al-Nusra and other UN-designated terrorist groups.
According to UN figures released several months ago, more than 250,000 have been killed since the Syrian war began in 2011.
